A warm welcome to the Sports & Model Shop which has been in our hands – the Furlong and Downie family – since 1982.
We took the business over when it was already an established institution in Dingwall, Scotland – then a specialist shooting shop called “Shanks”, run by a legendary local character and family friend, the late Alec Shanks.
Today the shop has evolved into an eclectic emporium on the High Street serving mostly collectors, hobbyists and keen fisher folk from across the Highlands as well as tourists.
The practical people person who’s an expert on models, trains and fishing rods (he’ll repair damaged ones for a small fee).
The organiser, usually hidden behind the scenes, who keeps everything on track.
The chilled-out canine shop ambassador, who will be your friend forever if you happen to have a biscuit on you.
We’re delighted to be able to run our online store with the same commitment to customer service and friendly, helpful attitude that has made our bricks and mortar store in Dingwall such a success and respected part of the community.
We believe we’ve managed to carry the old-fashioned traditional family values that mean so much to us into the online part of our business, bringing our vast range of products into the reach of more enthusiasts and collectors.
Here on our website, you’ll find everything that we offer under our relatively small roof in Dingwall, available to order for delivery around the UK. There are model trains, railway accessories and tools; wood, metal or plastic model kits for cars, military vehicles, aircraft, motorbikes, ships, boats and more; a range of toys and games; and a large selection of fishing tackle and outdoor clothing for sea, loch and river anglers.
We thoroughly enjoy meeting the hundreds of ferroequinologists (a fancy word for train fans) who visit our shop from far and wide to add to their collections of scale model trains and railways.
We carry stocks of most of the top brands of model railways like Hornby and Bachmann, selling everything from steam, diesel and electric locomotives to wagons and coaches from all eras of the railways. We have scenery, signals, signage, structures, track and other accessories for those engaged in building a model railway layout.
In the short but sweet Scottish summer months we’re kept busy catering for local and visiting anglers who we keep well equipped on their quest for trout and salmon in our lovely lochs and rivers.
