The German battlecruiser Gneisenau was the sister ship of the Scharnhorst. The pair were very successful together however the Gneisenau spent a good part of the war in dock for repair and was repeatedly bombed whilst there. From 1942 to 1944 she was in dock for reconstruction but eventually scuppered in Gotenhafen harbour in 1945 as a blockship.
