1/700 Dragon Premier Edition USS Independence The first of a new class of carriers converted from cruiser hulls.She operated in the Carribean and saw action in the Pacific conducting attacks on Japan itself in later stages of the war. She was eventually used a target vessel in the Bikini Atoll atomic testing but despite being within ½ mile she remained afloat. She was scuppered off San Francisco with it is claimed loaded with barrels of radioactive waste at the time of her sinking
